SSA announced today it has corrected nearly 15% of active Social Security numbers—roughly 50 million out of 330 million U.S. citizen records and nearly 390 million total. The agency added 17 million missing dates of death using internal systems and State Department data, updated 25 million records missing citizenship information via DHS SAVE, and is correcting another 8.5 million with inaccurate citizenship status. Commissioner Frank Bisignano called it the first effort of this scale and said accurate SSN records prevent fraud across federal programs.

U.S. Federal Court takes up property tax equity lawsuit today after Supreme Court restricts surplus claims

A federal district court accepted a constitutional lawsuit today challenging local property tax assessment and foreclosure practices, clearing the way for a potential federal jury trial. Property owners in the suit argue that local county tax foreclosures violated Fifth Amendment Takings Clause rights and Fourteenth Amendment due process standards by seizing home equity far exceeding the underlying delinquent tax debts.

The district court’s decision to advance the case comes after the Supreme Court ruled in Pung v. Isabella County that the constitutional floor for just compensation in a tax foreclosure sale is the auction price rather than fair market value. Because property owners alleged procedural irregularities and inadequate notice during the original tax sale, the federal judge denied the local government’s motion to dismiss today, allowing disputed factual claims regarding the sale’s fairness to proceed toward a jury.

Every humanoid robot needs up to 4.5 kilos of rare earth magnets to move. China makes more than 90% of the world’s supply.

Last year, China started requiring export licenses for rare earth magnets. Within weeks, Elon Musk was telling investors that production of Tesla’s Optimus robot had been affected.

That’s because every humanoid robot needs up to 4.5 kilos of rare earth magnets to move, and China makes more than 90% of the world’s supply.

SpaceX swings from $541 million Q2 loss to $4.4 billion Q3 net profit, revenue jumps 161% driven by Starlink and AI

SpaceX reported Tuesday a net income of $4.4 billion for the quarter ended September 30, reversing a $541 million net loss in the prior quarter and a $1.1 billion loss a year earlier. Revenue rose 161% year-over-year to $14.58 billion, beating estimates of about $12.72 billion.  Average vehicle age on U.S. roads reaches record 12.6 years as high car payments force drivers to defer purchases

S&P Global Mobility confirmed the average age of light vehicles in operation across the United States reached a record 12.6 years, continuing a consecutive seven-year aging trend. The aging fleet reflects severe consumer affordability constraints caused by average new vehicle monthly payments touching an all-time high of $770.

To absorb higher vehicle prices, lenders pushed average loan durations past 69 months for new vehicles, with over 35% of new auto loans carrying terms longer than six years. The surge in long-term financing has left a growing share of vehicle owners carrying negative equity, delaying trade-ins and forcing drivers to keep existing vehicles on the road longer.

What’s scary isn’t just what this criminal did, but all the chances he was given despite his dangerousness.October 20, 2026, 11:39 AM by Alex Mark

An American woman named Milora (29 years old) was sleeping inside her home in Los Angeles and woke up to a strange noise. She looked out the window and found a man trying to break into her house.

Milora realized the man was going to enter, so she escaped through a second-floor window onto the roof of the house. She took her phone to call the police and hid, terrified, below a protruding ledge. The terrifying part was that he followed her to the roof, searching for her with a tool in his hand—and that’s when she snapped this photo, which went viral worldwide.

The police arrived and, with the help of firefighters, managed to get her down safely. The man, named Christian Hicks, was arrested.

But here’s where things get strange and disturbing:

That same morning, police had stopped him after he broke into a backyard and then released him—after which he headed straight for Milora.

He was sentenced to three years in prison but was released, only to be arrested again in 2018 on charges of robbery and harassment, and sentenced to less than a year in jail. He was arrested in 2021 on kidnapping and rape charges, and finally, in 2023, he was sentenced to 37 years in prison.

Everything that happened was a massive failure and breakdown in the system and the judiciary. How does a dangerous person like this get given all these chances?

A powerful nor’easter with 40 million Americans in its path has finally smashed into the East Coast on Friday night, knocking out power for more than 50,000 and partially suspending commuter trains.

Strong winds have already hit the Tri-State area, with residents experiencing 40mph winds, with gusts up to 60mph. Areas like Long Island and coastal communities could experience higher gusts up to 70mph overnight into Sunday.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani told residents in a statement on Friday to prepare for ‘more rain and stronger winds.’

‘If you’re traveling this weekend, give yourself extra time, check your train, ferry or flight before you head out and stay off low-lying coastal roads around high tide,’ he said in a statement.

‘If you live in a basement apartment, know your way out and be ready to move to a higher floor if conditions become dangerous. Look out for your neighbors.’

At least two Long Island Rail Road lines, Valley Stream and Long Beach, have been affected due to flooding near Island Park, as of Saturday morning, according to PIX 11. Valley Stream is partially suspended, while Long Beach is not running.

Drivers trying to come and go in Ocean City, New Jersey, will also struggle, as the mayor has temporarily closed all the bridges to the area on Saturday morning. The structures were closed to major flooding in the area.

>>Average vehicle age on U.S. roads reaches record 12.6 years as high car payments force drivers to defer purchases<<

My 2013 Toyota Tacoma work truck only has 11,000 miles on it.
The 2010 [used] Clown Car [Smart] has about 90,000 miles, probably low for that year when I got it a few years ago.

I spent about $10,000 getting the Clown Car up to snuff 100% mechanically [KBB value ~$3,000].
It's fun and easy to get in and out of with a broken back [two-door].

I need to get it into Chip for a safety check. The only problem is that's it's getting loud, actually sounds good.
Either the muffler assembly is rusted out [$1,000 Mercedes, $200, eBay] or the exhaust manifold/catalyst is bad [$5,000 Mercedes, $1,000 eBay, new old stock].

I haven't seen Chip for a couple years, I think. He's a rocket scientist wrench, as all his men are.
Why he knows so much about Smart Cars is a mystery. There's probably been less than ten in FW in their heyday.

I don't like the sound of the word smart car.
I remember that long before I left Boston I saw a talking coke machine in Harvard Yard in Cambridge.
A tourist was pointing out to his  year-old son that the coke machine could talk.
I also saw a Black teenager talking to an older Black man on the subway (the Red Line is a subway, the Green and Blue lines are street cars.)
The older Black man said his dog understood German. The young delinquent asked the older man to have his dog say something in German.
A Jewish plain clothes detective walked by. I said you should tell your friends about his customer (the Black delinquent) who asked the older
man to say something in German.
I said, the dog did speak German. The dog said, "Woof. Woof."
That was in the late 80s while I was still in Boston.

I am opposed to all these unnecessary gadgets to make cars too expensive to drive.
The plan is to impoverish us so we will be easy to control.
