With nearly one in four Canadians reportedly living in food-insecure households, where is the same determination to help families put dinner on the table?

Supporting an ally is a defensible ambition. Canadians asking for affordable groceries deserve an equally convincing response.

The money tree has no leaves. The guy watering it has no savings. The watering can was financed.

A hundred more for groceries. A few hundred for a repair. The amount left after the mortgage that has to somehow survive until payday.

A government commitment gets a press conference. A family commitment gets a payment reminder.

And somewhere between those two worlds, asking how spending decisions are made becomes a test of your character.

Ask about priorities and someone starts explaining why you should care about other people.

You do care. That’s why you’re asking about the people paying for it, too.

Supporting Ukraine is a policy choice a government can defend. Canadians are entitled to ask what was promised, what was delivered, what was lent, what must be repaid, and what results the spending achieved.

Those are ordinary accounting questions. They shouldn’t require a declaration of moral innocence.

The same scrutiny belongs on domestic spending. Slap a maple leaf on a bad investment and it remains a bad investment. Announce a fund with “strong” in the name and you still need to explain what it owns, what it earns, and who absorbs the losses.

A patriotic adjective is doing a lot of unpaid labour in this country.

Here’s the economic problem beneath the cartoon: public spending depends on an economy that keeps producing taxable income.

You need businesses willing to invest. Workers whose purchasing power improves. Projects that become operating assets. A tax base that grows because people become more productive and prosperous.

Borrowing can spread a cost over time. It cannot make the cost disappear.

And announcing another billion does not tell us whether the previous billion accomplished anything.

That’s the conversation Canadians deserve. Show the accounts. Explain the trade-offs. Defend the priorities. Measure the results.

The money tree isn’t refusing to help.

Russia actually floated the idea of joining NATO.  A bit of history on that.  It was shot down.  The whole goal of the Western deep state now, post cold war, is to break Russia up into smaller countries that can each be handled as colonies much as Europe is today.  It's not out of the question given the enormous physical size of Russia and the very diverse ethnicity that make up the country.  If any country could be broken up, Russia would be a leading candidate more than any other on earth.  The practical issue about that which goes ignored is what would happen to their 6000+ nuclear warheads/missiles.  Political turmoil like that is fertile ground for corruption to get it's hands on the spoils.
