Homeowners Hit With Alarming New Financial Burden That Now Exceeds Property Taxes Across America
In a surprising shift in the economics of homeownership, the cost of home insurance plus the weather-related portion of auto insurance now exceeds property taxes across three-quarters of U.S. counties.
Across counties, homeowners now pay an average of 14% more for property insurance than property taxes. Moreover, homeowners face a 30% higher insurance burden than property-tax bill when weather-related auto insurance costs are included.
The financial burden falls hardest on the Southeast, where relatively low property taxes and exposure to hurricanes mean insurance premiums can run 2.5 to four times the typical tax bill. In the Northeast, the West and large metro areas, higher property taxes make rising premiums a smaller share of the overall bill.

Satellite imagery has revealed four of China’s new KJ-3000 airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) system at facilities operated by Xi’an Aircraft Company in Xi’an-Yanliang, confirming prior reports that the aircraft has entered serial production. Based on the four-engine Y-20B strategic transport aircraft, powered by domestically developed WS-20 turbofan engines, the new aircraft is the heaviest AEW&C system in production in the world, and provides a heavier counterpart to the medium weight KJ-500, which has been produced at a higher rate than the next several foreign systems combined in recent years. The KJ-3000’s large jet-powered airframe is expected to provide greater speed, range and endurance than the KJ-500, while its ability to operate at higher altitudes should also improve radar coverage against low-flying aircraft and missiles, which can remain hidden from ground-based sensors because of terrain or the radar horizon.

Elite U.S. Army Armoured Brigade Takes Heavy Losses in Simulated Combat with Ukrainian Drone Operators
Ukrainian drone operators caused approximately 70 percent of the simulated casualties suffered by a U.S. Army armoured brigade during the first three days of a major military exercise in Germany, exposing vulnerabilities in American forces’ ability to operate under persistent aerial surveillance and drone attack. The results came during Exercise Combined Resolve 26-07 at the Hohenfels Training Area in Bavaria in spring 2026, where the elite 3rd Armoured Brigade Combat Team of the 1st Cavalry Division, known as Greywolf, faced an opposing force reinforced by personnel from Ukraine’s 412th Regiment of the Unmanned Systems Forces, known as Nemesis. The findings were detailed in an article for the U.S. Army’s professional journal Military Review by brigade commander Colonel Michael Ziegelhofer and six other officers.

US taxpayer money laundered back through Ukraine Musk
Billionaire Elon Musk has accused US politicians of putting Kiev’s interests ahead of their own country’s, alleging that American taxpayer money sent to Ukraine is being laundered back into political campaigns.
Writing on X on Friday, the SpaceX founder suggested that financial interests could explain why some American lawmakers remain staunch supporters of Kiev in its conflict with Russia.
“Some of that US taxpayer money comes back through multiple laundry machines to fund political campaigns in America, which is why you see some politicians caring more about Ukraine than America!” Musk wrote, without identifying the beneficiaries.

California's Wildfire Aid Went Almost Everywhere Except the Survivors Who Lost Everything
HUD sent California just over one billion dollars in disaster recovery money, after insurance and other aid fell short for survivors of the state's deadliest fires.
Only $222.4 million of that was earmarked to help homeowners rebuild.
By the end of 2023, the state had spent just $38 million of that homeowner fund and rebuilt a total of 110 homes.
Meanwhile, $368.7 million of the same disaster money went straight to low-income housing developers, with no requirement that fire survivors live there.
One project, Eaglepointe Apartments in Paradise, took $7.3 million in disaster aid and opened with only 7 of its 42 units set aside for actual Camp Fire survivors.
Another project near the Woolsey Fire zone pulled in $26.1 million in state money, and the nonprofit developer that built it was the only company that even applied.
