PLEA DEAL | CIA official found with $40 million in gold bars.

 Washington — The Justice Department has reached a tentative plea deal with a former CIA official who was found with more than $40 million worth of gold bars in his home in May, according to a court filing Friday.

Prosecutors and a lawyer for the former CIA official asked a federal district court in Virginia to extend the deadline to file an indictment until Oct. 8, saying “a pre-indictment resolution promotes the public interest by conserving government and judicial resources.”

“The parties have made significant progress and have a plea agreement in principle that would resolve the matter prior to an indictment,” they wrote, adding that “based on the evidence obtained in the case thus far, the parties assess that proceeding to an indictment and trial would require significant litigation on any classified material.”

 The court filing did not indicate what charges the former official, David Rush, could plead to.

Netanyahu's Likud party suffers 'historic collapse' ahead of Israeli elections: Poll

   

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud party has slid to 19 seats in Israel's 120-seat Knesset, its weakest showing in over a year, according to a survey published by Maariv on 11 September, about six weeks before the 27 October general election.

The drop leaves Netanyahu's governing bloc, which includes Likud together with its coalition partners, on 50 seats, 11 short of the 61 needed to form a government, against 58 for the opposition parties and 12 for the Arab lists.

Former army chief Gadi Eisenkot's Yashar list stayed on top with 25 seats, followed by Likud, with the remaining 10 parties that cleared the threshold splitting between four and 14 seats each.

Netanyahu was spared a worse outcome by the arrival of a new coalition ally, Ofer Winter's Amcha Yisrael list, which won no seats in the previous survey but took four this time, leaving the coalition camp three seats stronger overall despite Likud's decline.

As commander of the Givati Brigade in 2014, Winter led Israeli forces during the Rafah massacre known as Black Friday, in which at least 135 Palestinian civilians, 75 of them children, were killed, according to Palestinian medical sources.

Launching the party, Winter said there would never be a Palestinian state and that the only solution for Gaza was total ethnic cleansing.

After Israel launched its genocide in Gaza, Winter held secret meetings with Netanyahu where he presented plans for the Israeli conquest of the enclave, according to Israel's Channel 13.

Before sending his soldiers into Gaza in 2014, Winter invoked religious scripture, casting the assault as a holy war waged for the “God of Israel.”

Maariv called the Likud figure a “historic collapse,” the party's poorest result since 29 May 2025 and down from 21 seats in a survey taken earlier the same week.

When asked who was better suited to serve as prime minister, 50 percent of survey respondents chose Eisenkot against 38 percent for Netanyahu, while former prime minister Naftali Bennett was preferred by 45 percent against 40 percent for Netanyahu.
