A single bird has just accomplished one of the most extraordinary feats in the animal kingdom — flying nearly one-third of the way around the Earth without stopping to eat, drink, or rest.

The record-breaker is a five-month-old Bar-tailed Godwit that flew nonstop from Alaska to Tasmania, Australia. Covering 8,425 miles in just over 11 days, it set a new record for the longest nonstop flight ever documented in any bird.

What makes this journey even more astonishing is that it was the young godwit’s very first migration. The entire route took place over the open Pacific Ocean, with no chance to land. Despite that, the bird navigated thousands of miles of featureless water with pinpoint accuracy.

This incredible endurance is made possible by remarkable physiological adaptations. Before takeoff, the godwit packs on enormous fat reserves — nearly half its body weight — to fuel the flight. At the same time, many of its internal organs, including parts of the digestive system, temporarily shrink to lighten the load and maximize energy efficiency.

Unlike many seabirds that depend heavily on gliding, this godwit flapped continuously for the entire journey, battling shifting winds and weather systems the whole way.

Researchers at the Pūkōroro Auckland Shorebird Centre say discoveries like this are transforming our understanding of migratory birds. The Boatlift That Was Bigger Than Dunkirk

At 10:45 a.m. on September 11, 2001, a Coast Guard lieutenant named Mike Day keyed a radio in New York Harbor and said the only sentence that mattered.

“All available boats. This is the United States Coast Guard. Anyone wanting to help with the evacuation of Lower Manhattan, report to Governors Island.”

The boats were already coming.

The bridges were closed. The tunnels were closed. The subways were dead. South of the towers, hundreds of thousands of people had nowhere left to walk. Some jumped into the Hudson. Some stood on seawalls that were never meant to be docks and waited for anything that floated.

Dunkirk took nine days to pull 338,226 Allied soldiers off a beach in 1940.

On 9/11, roughly 800 mariners on about 150 vessels moved as many as 500,000 civilians off Manhattan in about nine hours. Ferries. Tugs. Dinner boats. Pilot boats. Yachts. A retired fireboat. Rubber dinghies that held two people. The largest water evacuation in history.

NY Waterway did not wait for the official call. After the second plane hit, the whole fleet moved. Captain Rick Thornton nosed his ferry against a seawall that was not a slip and started taking people off. Some of them he pulled out of the river. His company alone carried about 158,000 people to Jersey City, Hoboken, Weehawken, Brooklyn, and Queens.

On a normal Tuesday they carried 34,000.

The Staten Island Ferry moved more than 50,000 people and came back the other way with water, bandages, and men who still had work to do in the dust.

The old fireboat John J. Harvey, already retired, tied up near the Museum of Jewish Heritage, took civilians off the seawall, then pumped water when the hydrants downtown died.

Lt. Day later admitted what the day required. “I broke more rules that day than probably I’ve enforced in my whole Coast Guard career.”

In raw numbers it was bigger than Dunkirk. No boat went down. By nightfall the southern tip of Manhattan had been emptied by people who were not on anyone’s list of heroes when the morning started.

They were tug captains. Ferry deckhands. Pilots. A lieutenant with a microphone. Ordinary boats answering one sentence.

Captain Dan Hanley is a retired United Airlines Boeing 777 captain whose cockpit career spanned 35 years. After a decade as a United States Navy aviator he spent 25 years at the airline, logging more than 20,000 hours in 15 aircraft types. He maintains he could not have flown the published 9/11 profiles, least of all the Pentagon approach, and that the named hijackers had never flown those aircraft.

His central claim is that the four airliners were captured by an uninterruptible autopilot. He describes a 1990s system that lets a remote station seize both the autopilot and the flight-management computer and drive the airplane to a preloaded target. Once engaged, he says, the crew cannot disconnect it. That device, not a student at the yoke, is how he accounts for the last miles.

In August 2020 he filed an FAA hotline report alleging electronic hijack of the 9/11 planes. He later pressed the Justice Department and Attorney General Bondi for a criminal inquiry. No such case was opened. He now directs 9/11 Pilot Whistleblowers and records other captains who endorse the same remote-control thesis.

United and the FAA removed him from flying in 2003 after he submitted 9/11-related safety reports. A five-year fight ended without a full hearing on his evidence. He puts his personal loss at about 4 million dollars in pay, pension, and stock, and he also lost a 27-year marriage and contact with his children, who believe the official narrative.

He claims he was repeatedly banned from social media platforms for speaking of an evil "Zionist" conspiracy within the governments of Israel, the U.S., the U.K. and others. He treats those interruptions as the public-facing sequel to the grounding that ended his airline career.

Another child murdering mother & this isn’t her first child to die.

Shana Kay Whitton is a 31 year old mother from Clearwater, Kansas, who faces charges including first degree felony murder, child abuse, & aggravated arson in connection with the death of her 15 month old son, Matthew Jon Whitton.

Most recently, in September 2026, a judge ordered a competency evaluation for Whitton to determine if she is fit to stand trial.

On August 25, 2025, emergency services responded to an apartment complex in Clearwater where 15 month old Matthew was found unresponsive. Whitton claimed her son had choked on food. The toddler was rushed to the hospital in critical condition & died three days later.

Authorities immediately doubted Whitton's story. An autopsy later revealed that there was no food in the child's airway. The coroner ruled the death a homicide caused by intentional asphyxiation, which resulted in fatal brain damage.

Prior to the murder charges, Whitton was arrested in October 2025 on multiple counts of arson. Investigators allege she intentionally set a fire in Matthew's bedroom earlier that summer (July 2025).

Media reports & court documents revealed that Matthew was not Whitton's first child to die. Her 2 year old daughter, Gypsy Rose, passed away in July 2024. While that death was initially ruled an accidental choking incident involving grapes, authorities launched a review of the case under suspicions of broader medical child abuse.

Whitton is being held in the Sedgwick County jail on a $500,000 bond. Criminal proceedings are paused pending the outcome of the court ordered mental competency evaluation reported by local news outlets like KWCH.
