As if Coulrophobics didn't have enough to worry about! An Illinois "Christian clown" has been charged with possession of child pornography and sex tourism stemming from a trip to a Filipino orphanage. After several months of investigation A. Paul Carlock Jr., who performs under the name Klutzo, was arrested Tuesday at his home in Springfield.

The 57-year-old former law enforcement officer and juvenile councilor, was originally detained on June 11 at San Francisco International Airport while returning from the Philippines, where he says he performed at an orphanage called House of Joy. A routine inspection of his digital camera and phone uncovered a variety of images of naked pre-teen boys, according to his arrest report. When questioned about the images, Carlock reportedly told officers, "That's how they live."

Lifestyles aside, three of the boys featured in the photographs later gave sworn statements that Carlock came into their rooms at night and fondled their genitals. They further asserted that he sneaked out when they woke up. Those statements lead to a search warrant, which was executed on Sept. 28 and which uncovered at least "21 movies on six compact discs that contain child pornography," according to the affidavit.

For the past 10 years Carlock and his wife, who goes by the stage name Smilee, have been "clowning" for youngsters at orphanages across the world. According to their website, they "are available for vacation Bible schools, children's crusades, Sunday school, children's church, church parties... and more [which] can be used to present the gospel of Jesus Christ to your children." It also states that Klutzo is "an ordained minister (formerly with the Church of the Nazarene, currently with the Missionary Church International)."

The Peoria Journal Star is reporting that in December 1986, Carlock wrote a letter to the State Journal-Register on the dangers of pornography. In that letter he calls himself a "Christian Conservative" and 16-year veteran of law enforcement. His complaint was over a cartoon which he referred to as "smut."

Ironically he then wrote: "I have spoken with victims and offenders and have read many case histories in which pornographic materials played an overwhelming role in the events that have left lives shattered and homes broken." Now it appears he may be adding to that body of evidence as he is under arrest and reportedly divorcing his wife.

Klutzo, The Krazy Konservative Kristian Kid-Loving Kop Klown. Has a certain ring to it.

I have never liked clowns. They always remind me of Pennywise.

My daughter has always been terrified of them. When she was a kid, there was a show she loved called Are You Afraid of the Dark. The intro had an evil looking clown offering a balloon, and it would send her diving under the couch. She still hates clowns.

Christian Clown In Perv Bust

Illinois man had porn cache from trip to Philippines orphanage

OCTOBER 10--An Illinois man who worked as a "Christian clown" named Klutzo was arrested yesterday on child pornography charges for allegedly taking naked photographs of young boys at a Philippines orphanage. According to a federal criminal complaint, Amon Paul Carlock took the illicit photos during a "clowning" trip to the House of Joy orphanage earlier this year. The photos were discovered by agents who examined Carlock's camera and laptop during a routine baggage inspection at the San Francisco airport, according to the complaint, an excerpt of which you'll find below. When agents confronted Carlock about the images, he denied possessing child pornography and having sexual contact with children. Carlock can be at right seen in a creepy promotional video (titled "Klutzo in the Philippines") documenting his visit to the House of Joy orphanage. Regarding the naked photos of young boys, Carlock explained, "That's how they live." Three of the boys seen in the photos told investigators they woke up to find Carlock fondling and caressing them. On his web site, Carlock (who has worked with his wife, a fellow clown) describes himself as a Christian clown who performs at parties, picnics, vacation Bible school, children's church. Carlock told investigators that he previously traveled to the House of Joy in 2004 and visited a Mexican orphanage in 2002. He also reported being an ordained minister who has been involved in pastoral ministry, Christian education and camping, and evangelism since 1967. In one Internet posting on a missionary outreach site, Carlock sought to volunteer at an overseas orphanage "doing any tasks that I am capable of doing. Wife cannot come due to work." (11 pages)

He bears an uncanny resemblance to John Wayne Gacy, another Illinois clown with an appetite for young boys.

I notice the boys in these pictures seem to have found some clothes. Guess they don't always run around naked, as he told the cops.

A pedophile who DOESN'T claim to be a Christian is a news story. Isn't it a requirement of perversity that one have a guilt ridden childhood, have been shamed for sexuality, and have been programmed to need punishment for lusting?!

..that was one of my first thoughts.. well we now know thats not how 'they live'..

He does remind me of Gacy also..

There was a young teen in our neighborhood where I grew up.. he ran away from home and the last they heard from him was that he was in the area Gacy was located.. his parents often wondered if he was one of Gacy's victims..

One reason I think the pervs get into the ministry or some Christian work is that Christians tend to be very naive .. if they talk the talk then in their minds they must walk the walk no matter what they see.. they're totally blind..

What's in a name? Ask one suburban man who's been entertaining children for years as a clown. The arrest of another clown who goes by the same name is forcing Jerry Kautz of Algonquin to give up something he loves.

Kautz said being a clown brings him joy. It's a big part of his volunteer work. He thought about becoming a professional clown a few years ago and took classes to hone his craft.

But when another Illinois man, who also performs as Klutzo the Clown, was arrested for possessing child pornography Kautz was knew he would have to say goodbye to Klutzo.

Kautz is known around Algonquin as an active member of the Lions Club and part- time village clerk. But he also has a more colorful persona.

"Today he would have normally dressed up as Klutzo and greeted the kids coming out of the store," said friend Don Purn.

Klutzo the Clown is a character Kautz created nearly 25 years ago. He always had a love for clowns and developed Klutzo into a character that became a staple over the years at grand openings, family events and village parades.

"It's so much fun for me. It really is, to interact with people and try to get them to come out of their shell," said Kautz. "Klutzo got through and didn't know it. There was a little girl who was autistic. She said 'thank you.' She doesn't talk to anyone but she talked to the clown."

Kautz refers to Klutzo in the third person because the clown has become such a part of his life. But now he is retiring the character because he said the name has become tainted.

"I knew there was another Klutzo somewhere in Illinois, I knew it from our clown association and I'd seen his name in the book, but it never dawned on me that this would ever happen, and I never had any indication. Don't know the man, never met him," Kautz said.

That man is 57-year-old Amon Paul Carlock of Springfield, who was arrested Tuesday for possessing child pornography. According to a federal affidavit, Carlock, a performer who also goes by Klutzo the Clown, traveled to the Philippines to photograph himself having sex with underage boys at an orphanage.

Once the story broke, Kautz received hate mail and decided to say goodbye to Klutzo.

You use your craft, your trade to do things like this, it's unconscionable," Kautz said.

Carlock is in federal custody. A preliminary hearing is set for next week. According to the affidavit, he is an ordained minister.

Kautz said he considered giving up being a clown, but his friends and family talked him out of it. He's not sure yet who his new character will be.

I agree. It's a yin and yang thing. The over the top religious activities are suppose to be a ballast for the nasty, naughty boy in their heart.

Where I grew up, the local Methodist church had a camp out in the woods. There were always rumors about the counselors being a little too interested in making sure every boy took a shower at night and got tucked in. Same story. No one ever did anything about it.

Church can be very positive, if one remembers to stay positive and not fall into the pitfall of smugness. Some churches are very positive, others very negative. Even the positive ones can become self congratulatory, unfortunately. Pride is the most common flaw of the professional church goer, IMHO.

The best advice I can give anyone who is considering getting more deeply involved in their church.. STOP dont do it..

Ive been involved in more than one church .. taught Sunday school..headed pulpit committees.. taught at Weds night services.. and there is not one that I'd return to..

I really make a major differentiation between religion and, for lack of a better word, spirituality. Religion exists primarily because the human mind rejects the idea of permanent death. It gives us the creeps.

The idea that there MIGHT be something on the other side is fine. The idea that it does in fact exist, with no proof, and you have to do this and that to experience it is just ridiculous. The kid that came up with the Flying Spaghetti Monster was aiming right at this conceit.

I don't really have anything against religion per se. The need to gang up and reinforce the beliefs, to police them, to punish the heretic...that's where religion goes wrong.

When I was a kid, I got tossed out of the Boy Scouts by the local minister, who was also the scoutmaster. For some reason, he came up to me and asked me where my family went to church. I said, um, nowhere. Boom, I was gone.

I was already pretty suspicious of organized religion, but that pretty much settled the matter.

Seems the local minister was a tad skewed in his thinking IMO.
