The US will not interfere if Iran attacks Israel Through a series of messages exchanged via third parties, the United States and Iran have come to an understanding.
Iran assured the Americans it will not target U.S. facilities, and in turn the U.S. says it will not get involved if Iran retaliates against Israel.

Our greatest ally? C'mon. Only a cowardly people would attack a lightly armed intelligence vessel like the USS LIBERTY off the coast of the Sinai during the 1967 Arab-Israeli War.
The bottom line was the LIBERTY picked up intelligence the Israelis massacred 3,000 Egyptian prisoners in the Sinai.

Captain McGonagle was awarded the Medal of Honor in a private ceremony. Those awards are usually very public since they want everyone to know about it. ;)
