By raising interest rates and destroying other currencies, we put the screws to other nations. Suppose a European business took out a euro-dollar loan of 140 million dollars. At 140 dollars to a euro, they owed 100 million euros. Today they owe us 145.57 million euros. If they attempt to renew that loan, higher US interest rates will raise that loan payment in euros from 2% of 100 million euros ( 2 million euros) to 3.5% of 145.57 euros or 4.367 million euros, a 218% increase. Most corporations were already zombies before the US blew up both Nord Stream pipelines but afterwards, German consumers will be lucky if they can afford to eat substandard food, pay their electric bills, their natural gas bills and buy petrol for their cars. If they work for smelters or bakeries, they will lose their jobs. If they own small businesses they will go from being carefree and prosperous to being bankrupted and foreclosed.
