Our doughty Christian friend hasn't been heard from since I last challenged him on religion. I'm very concerned -- have never wanted to run anybody off. If that's what's happened, will lots of you PM and encourage him to come back?

Are any of you in touch with him -- or HAPPY2BME-4UM?

Help! Thanks!

btw, I have been wondering about HAPPY2BME-4UM, as well, and Itistoolate. I learned a lot from both of them. Anyone know if they are alright?

Thanks, Lod, you too! Don't know how long it will last...computer is struggling again. I guess I ask it to do too much. Open to suggestions on a new computer. I got this one about two years ago I think, and it came with Windows 10. I paid the guy a hundred dollars extra to put Windows 7 on it. Now I am thinking of switching to Linux, or rather being FORCED to switching. I love my windows, have at least two or three hundred of them at any one time...LOL! I'm totally computer unsavvy. Does anyone know if Linux will give me "windows"?

Oh, boy, a kindred spirit. Normally I have like 10-15 windows open (to the shock of my computer doctor).

And you're a Win 7 person like me. Let me suggest the Toshiba Satellite laptop series -- the P875-S7200 at least. Best thing I've ever owned, and surely others in the series are great too.

Huge screen, great display, fun keyboard, TWO USB slots on each side. Speakers are Harmon Kardon -- one's defective on my present unit, but oh the quality of this puter's sound via just a small 3-piece set of external speakers! I've owned at least four P8750-S7200s (2 got zapped by lightning via the ethernet port) and amazingly, they've always recovered from an instant shutdown, e.g. on pulling the plug or holding the power button down to stop a virus -- or Duke turning my power off over an overdue bill. They come with batteries, true, but these don't last forever.

Yes we're talking older/preowned machines here, but so what. Win 7 is good for a few more years, they tell me, and they can easily converted to Windows 10 or (I assume) Linux etc. Got my present backup P875-S7200 over Ebay -- the seller had replaced the original hard drive and added a SSD with Win 10 on it, which he willingly changed to Win 7.

Here's the same deal I got -- price may seem high, but I'd readily pay it again:

I thought they were going to stop servicing it by January (?).

My experts tell me that is not an absolute endpoint. (4um experts, please weigh in.) Believe tons of Win7 resources will remain in the Microsoft site. Other help has to exist -- 'KEEP USING WINDOWS 7' brings interesting search results.

On the advice of Mike Rivero's via his What Really Happened radio show I haven't been accepting any Windows updates for a few years now, and have no problems. They've kept sending notifications, but weirdly, none that say 'critical' since I stopt.

Coincidentally AVG notified that hundreds of problems needed fixing in some category the other day -- but when I bit the bait and clicked to search for 'em, the list was tiny. And I do trust AVG et al to stop intruders -- seems to have worked perfectly for a long time.

Trust you're aware of a hard drive's two best friends -- CCleaner and Diskmax? Oh BOY are they good. Free, too!
