The chaplain at the U.S. Military Academy “gave a powerful invocation at Saturday’s Army-Navy football game in Philadelphia.” Actually, he prayed for U.S. troops to kill and maim and make widows and orphans around the world. Here is an excerpt:

We are especially mindful of our first class cadets and midshipmen, bristling on the brink of becoming soldiers, sailors, marines. Ready today to happily visit violence on each other and, if need be, someday, sometime soon, on the enemies of the world, so that our citizens, our allies’ citizens, indeed the sane citizens of all countries, can sleep safe and sound in peace.

Now even a good night’s sleep is due to the military defending our freedoms.

So true, so true. Everything is the opposite of what it pretends to be and/or shouldbe. Clemens covered this trenchantly

There's plenty of OT scripture calling for prayer for death of enemies, but not so much in the NT. Actually, none.

Right -- the imprecatory prayers of King David among others. Some pastors, notably in Christian Identity, still teach and preach it. I enjoy it myself!

When I was in Vietnam, our priest, when he made it up to our compound, carried a weapon. I asked him about it once. He said "Fuck 'em. They're Buddhists"

Firstly, I dont think that is what was said, Vance is spewing his own vitriol.

Secondly, uhhhhh, that is what soldiers are paid to do, kill people.

Of course he didn't put it in those terms, but that is what was meant.

They call those who kill people for money mercenaries. Best to beware them.

Ever since the POTUS forbid 'chaplains' to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ (they cannot even take a Bible into a hospital room of a wounded soldier when they pray for them), the term 'chaplain' is no longer relevant in connection to the 'u.s. military.'

It is a reprobate force, led by a reprobate leader (who is a muslim).

Said and meant are unrelated. Such is attention getter, nothing more.

All soldiers are mercenaries, for all time.

We were paid to kill, and you were the one that hired us and paid our wages. It was you that allowed the government to drag us into war, you said nothing, did nothing, you and the rest that stayed home safe and sound, and now brand soldiers as criminals.

Such hypocrisy.

By the way Ada, regardless of who wins, the next President will institute a draft, women included.

I don't think that there will be another draft here. The rulers learned from Vietnam what will happen, and they won't repeat it.

One group stands between you and a dictator at this time, it is the military.

There will be, and soon.

The next president will institute it. This country can no longer afford a paid military, it will come down to dragging the kids off once again.

I recall the late 1930s, FDR saying over and over he would never draft American boys to fight foreign wars.

Most Americans believed it, swallowed it, all the time the SOB knew he was going for a draft and he got it.

Anyone that warned of a draft was derided as looney and anti American. When the draft began who were the first ones that did their best to avoid it?

In 1948 Truman did it to us again. Been there, didnt like it either time.

Some nut called me on the phone and told me I was in the National Guard. I said, "Nope." Then he said, "Then you worked for the National Guard." I said, "Not at all. Where are you getting your information?"

When they get your name, they think they know everything about you. ;)

Reality Fred, reality.

Money first, we can no longer pay the unwashed to die. They need to dragged in for a pittance.

Second a draft involves but 1 per cent of the population, with 90 per cent of those from the lowest class.

Elites are few and rarely in harms way. I served with but one "elite" in war time. He didnt like the way we were treated so he made a phone call and was gone the next day. His family had access to the Oval office. The OIC wet himself when a call came telling him what to do and be damned quick about it.

Riotous tale!! But it's harder to imagine them getting away with a draft today than bringing back Jim Crow.

Which is exactly what it is. Crucial text from Titus chapter 1 they never expound from Babdist or Church o' Gawd pulpits:

13 This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;
14 Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.

If the Holohoax, MLK legend and 9/11 terr'ism threat aren't Jueish fables what ARE they? Yeah, it's right there in the KJV! The Bible can be so incredibly up-to-date.

Maybe the draft is involuntary servitude, but it will shorten/reduce the number of wars we are involved in. Draftees do not want to fight wars.

Nobody won it, Cyni. Nobody.

Everybody try a little experiment, please. Start tallying the mentions of WW2 you hear going about your day. How many refer to a benefit it brought anybody, and how many to a detriment? The answer may surprise you.

Truth can be ugly and disillusioning, but there's no substitute for it -- are we all agreed on that at least?

I do not understand the connection of the two statements.

Draftees are unwilling soldiers who want only to end the conflict and go home to their lives. Mercenaries OTOH fight for money and rank and there are few promotions in peace time.

For us with draftees WWII lasted three years. Our war against Afghanistan has lasted 13 years with no end in sight.
