I went to a dentist a year ago who wanted to treat my teeth to a dental filling. I've never had cavities in my life but the dentist insisted I had two. So, I requested from them to not treat my teeth with mercury fillings. The assistant, who could not even get the snap shots of my teeth right at all looked at me strangely and said, "We use mercury fillings on all our patients." I told her I insisted on not having the treatment done and she asked why. I told her patients have a right to determine what treatment they are comfortable with. She kept arguing with me about the benefits of the fillings. Never did she offer an alternative treatment. So, I just got up and refused to have them do any work on me at all. I never went back to that practitioner again. I went home and decided to do some research on holistic treatment. I remember reading about the dangers of mercury fillings several years ago. I discovered that not only mercury but the fluoride in the toothpaste may also be responsible for dental problems. It's actually bad for your teeth. I have not used toothpaste in over a year. Instead I use a mouthwash and brush using baking soda after every meal. And I take Green Pastures butter oil/fermented cod liver oil blend.

Well done. I had a similar experience with a PSA test. Had I listened to the initial urologist, I would have been on the biopsy table. Fast forward one year and my PSA is "normal" thanks to supplements and pomegranate juice. The majority of the members of the medical profession are robots and are incapable of research beyond the little they might have done in medical school.

Had my mother not listened to the doctors she'd still be alive today. She died of breast cancer two weeks ago. Apparently, the meds she was taking were too much for her to handle. When I spoke with her in 2009, I remember her vomiting from many of the meds from the doctors and I remember telling her, "Mom, you're gonna die from these meds cause they're killing you slowly but surely." She would not listen to me at all. Three years later my revelation came true. I wish she had listened to me. It is really strange cause when I want to reach out and call her I realize she's not there anymore. I actually brought her picture to work with me two days ago. Some people commented on how gorgeous she looked. The picture was taken before she got ill with cancer. I told them I brought the photo along so she could watch me work.
Pomegranate juice is the juice of kings. Drink it well. It not only helps built the immune system but also helps fight cancer cells.

I do the same. When I injured my shoulder in 2010 from doing moving of furniture all by myself, I realized I had dislocated my right shoulder. I managed to get some help from a massage therapist who specializes in holistic theraphy. She did a fine job of easing the pain. I can use most of the arm now but back then I was in so much pain I could not even shake anybody's hand let alone work with it much.

I'm sorry to hear about your mom purplerose, and I suspect you're right regarding her therapy. People are all too willing to follow "doctor's orders" especially those of our parent's generation. Both of my parents lived into their 90s so I have a good possibility I picked up their genetic blueprint, and that was an important reason I dismissed the prostate biopsy and went holistic instead.

From the information that Tatz, and others, have posted here, the PSA test is pretty much discredited today as any kind of a reliable marker for cancer.

What those of my mom's generation have taught my generation is to not question authority but instead respect them. That's the problem. In 2009, she urged me to get the flu shot knowing damn well I have low tolerance to it just as she did. But she continually puts her faith in doctors. It's her loss. I just know that when I saw her in 1996, she was obese; at 185 lbs. Back in the late 80's when she was in her 40's she was a very trim lady at 110 lbs. She just let herself go. I think the excess weight in 1996 was a major contributing factor to her later getting ill in 2004. It's why I guard what I eat. I don't eat a lot of red meat and no pork. I try to eat a lot of fruits and raw vegetables. I don't smoke and I am a very modest drinker. So, if I can keep this habit going I may live longer than my mom. My dad outlived my mom. He's 97. But then, he was always a clean freak and health fanatic. I take after him a lot.

I've researched the PSA test very thoroughly. IMVHO, it's only value is if it's taken as a 6-month series and that series shows the value increasing with each subsequent test. I'd be concerned if the number reaches 10 (+), but that's just me. In my case, my initial # was 6.8 and upon retest (having dumped red meat and dairy) I was at 4.0, with a free PSA of 27 (normal). Most urologists don't bother doing the free PSA, which is the more sensitive and important value.

Prostate-specific antigen (PSA).
It’s a protein thrown off by the prostate gland. At our age, a value of >4 is normal, with a free PSA >25. It can be elevated for a number of benign reasons, such as an enlarged prostate, which again, we have given our age.
In general, one test by itself, has no real value unless it's 2 or 3 x normal. In that case, I'd change my diet, start supplements (saw palmetto is excellent) and retest in 3-6 months.
