Hagerstown, Md

A man convicted of killing four of his girlfriends kittens by throwing them into a fire was sentenced Thursday to nearly a year in prison despite the couple's pleas for leniency.

Washington County Circuit Judge John H. McDowell also urged authorities to investigate whether defendant Robert L. Tomlin's girlfriend, Kelli Green, participated in the animal abuse and then lied to police.

"You have given so many stories, conflicting stories, about what happened that evening that I don't believe a word that you have to say right now," McDowell told Green after she spoke in Tomlin's defense.

McDowell ordered Tomlin, 22, to serve the maximum 341 days in prison for violating his probation by moving back in with Green and her five remaining cats days after he pleaded guilty Nov. 13 to aggrevated animal cruelty. The plea bargain had included a suspended, 18 month prison term and three years of supervised probation with conditions that Tomlin avoid contact with Green and animals.

Tuesday's sentence included credit for 199 days Tomlin has already spent in custody.

Green, 20, initially had implicated Tomlin in the July 2 deaths of her kittens but she recanted a month later.

"We were both drunk," she said in court Tuesday. "I barely remember anything from that night."

Tomlin, a high-school dropout, failed to contact his probation agent immediately after his release from custody in November, and then he lied to the agent that he was living with his grandmother in Hagerstown, Deputy State's Attorney Steven C. Kessell said. Instead, Tomlin said he was living on the streets and sleeping in a homeless shelter until he and Green reconnected around Thanksgiving.

"I was just trying to do what was right for me," Tomlin said.

Green said Tomlin had been well-behaved before he was re-arrested at her home in Smithsburg Nov 29. She said he was taking classes, applying for jobs and not drinking. "He was doing everything he was supposed to," she said.

Green declined to comment after the hearing on McDowell's suggestion that she be investigated for animal cruelty.

Kessell said the state's attorney's office took the judge's comment seriously. "If the court is directing it, we will follow the court's decision," he said.

That is a horrible death, by fire. I could have recommended either drowning and/or antifreeze as plausible alternatives. Another idea is one using a BB gun with a distance of about 10 yards max.

Lots of ways to eliminate critters other than fire. Now, that is inhuman.

You're saying that by inflicting a slow death, liver failure, by using anti- freeze is less "inhuman.?"

I see you can't BUST my opinion that is kind and human other than by using some amazing stunts.

Upon an Internet web political chit-chat channel I have never offered "merriness" in order to express my personal political thoughts, ideas or concepts; of course this is unlike yourself wherein you can interleave your silly and stupid comments intermingling with mine.

You are stupid; you are insane. There is no doubt about it.

Keep on attempting to defend your previous posts.

Everyone on the 4um is fully aware of the fact that you "enjoy" harming helpless little animals by tainting cat food with anti freeze, shootin' em with bee bee guns, and baggin' and drowning 'em.

Where did I say, "enjoy" ... take responsibility for your self while there is time Nimrod. Start now, on an Internet chit-chat channel and grovel at my feet. No licking permitted until you prove yourself worthy.

That is a horrible death, by fire.

Yes,it is. Especially for a baby animal whose only offense is "being there". It's not like the kittens had attacked and mauled him.

I could have recommended either drowning and/or antifreeze as plausible alternatives. Another idea is one using a BB gun with a distance of about 10 yards max.

Only marginally better that burning them to death. If you absolutely, positively have to kill them, hit them in the head with something heavy or snap their necks. Almost instant death and fairly painless

Lots of ways to eliminate critters other than fire.

How about this one? How about just take them to a animal shelter and drop them off? Or if it's cats, take them somewhere like Feline Hope, where they never put down healthy cats, and they keep there there until they find good homes for them? Feline Hope is a private charity and no government money is involved. All workers are volunteers.

There is also an organization devoted to dogs, but I can't remember their name right now.

THIS is the only truly humane way to deal with unwanted animals that are healthy.

Why take the time or spend the money? The critters are often displaced by the kind loving owners of pets and dropped offed upon my property. To inform the "humane society" costs me a hundred bucks a pop.

BullBarack! It costs you nothing but a phone call to call animal control, and all it costs you to drop cats off at Feline Hope is whatever gas you burn to get there. Chances are if you are too cheap to buy the gas (which would cost little more than the anti-freeze) they would send somebody over to pick the cats up.

It's absolutely insane to try and claim it costs you 100 bucks a pop to inform the "humane society" (whatever the hell that is. I assume you mean the SPCA),when anybody who has ever done this knows it can be done by a single phone call.

Buckeroo is all about the un-realized serial killer type. He plays god with the lives of animals, because in his mind they are his lives to give or take. Aint that right Bucky?

He's a sicko, plain and simple and the sooner you put him on bozo the better.

How did you give all those little kittie cats away because you couldn't ensure their well being? After-all you gave the poor beasts life. Did you give them away to derelicts on a street corner because of your own irresponsibility?

No retard, I didn't give the cats life, that was done by the male cat living in our household. Accidents happen. Were your parents married when you were born? I highly doubt it. Only a real bastard could want to willingly hurt kittens or cats for that matter.

Then there's the issue of your having children. Do you have any? If so, did you let them move away and start lives of their own? If not, do you keep them locked up in your basement like some of those other sickos out there who rape their own daughters?

You have no argument or any kind of real reasoning for what you do. You're a perverse person who quite frankly lacks the humanity it takes to find homes for animals instead of arbitrarily killing them like a self deifying god wannabe.

You're a tool box. Get lost.

Better to be hated for what you are, than loved for what you are not.
