It goes without saying that Twitter has gone off the deep end, even post-election, humiliating President Trump in profoundly censorous ways every day.

It's not enough that they gray out his re-tweets as "unavailable," which as a matter of fact, they are not. It turns out they have a slew of crummy stupid censorship tricks, the latest of which is to manipulate the order of tweets to demean President Trump.

The censorship started with the falsely claimed "unavailable" tweets, usually happening when Trump attempted to retweet the riot reporting of independent journalist Andy Ngo.

Then they began to put circled blue exclamation points below almost every tweet the president did, with the purported correction below that "This claim about election fraud is disputed" which clicks to an 'experts say' argument that 'election fraud is exceedingly rare,' a genuinely dishonest statement given the documented research of the Heritage Foundation, and assorted news events, such as the judicial order for a new election in North Carolina owing to illegal-ballot harvesting in 2018, suggesting that electoral fraud is anything but rare.

They also get their blue markers out to start their circled exclamation point with "official sources called this election differently" any time President Trump tweets that he won the election, a link which leads to media claims of Joe Biden winning, not official sources. File under 'dishonest.'

Time for a breakup of monopolies (remember Bell Telephone).

It's hard to break up an internet company. Bell was a brick & mortar operation, as was standard oil.

I agree it's a monopoly problem though, but in this case, it's hard to suggest an anti-trust style cure.

Parler is vying to compete with Twitter and they've experienced huge download and account gains due to Twitter itself becoming controversial. So maybe competition can still be the ultimate remedy. If/when Trump annouces he's using Parler, it should give it another big boost.

Do you know if it's true that Parler requires a photo-id of its users?

But since I don't Tweet, I don't know that I'd parler either.

No idea. I never had a twitter account so don't know this type of thing.

I did open up an mewe.com account. It's an FB alternative and advertises no targeted advertising and "no BS". The owner purports to be a libertarian. They make money off of paid premium service though basic service is free.

I checked it out and they wanted a phone number ... and I decided that they wanted too much.

they wanted a phone number

When they ask for that I just give them a phony number. I do not need junk texts on my phone. ;)

Thanks for the research and information, but since I don't have a smart phone, I guess the idea will remain moot here.

I believe Twitter is cell-phone based. If you don't have a cell phone, you cannot use the service much like signing up for an email subscription requires you provide an email address.

A great number of mobile apps that provide communication services require the number in order to work at all.

I don't have a smart phone either. But I do have a tablet and a basic cell phone. And the basic phone is enough to let me get my tablet online. I do use whatsapp, which is a superior version of skype. It is owned by FB, however, as Zuck bought it from the original developer.

Sigh.... yeah, it's here. Or so I've been told. I'm not the city type, at least, so lots of people will suffer any ill effects from it before I do.

They do require a photo ID if you want to be monetized and or a verified contributor. Otherwise you just have to have an e-mail account.

Luckily, I'm so dark-age that I couldn't send any photo id.

Somehow I'll survive.
