Americans Believe Iran Is Biggest Threat To US

AFP | February 8 2006

Americans believe Iran poses the greatest danger to the United States, followed by China, Iraq and South Korea, according to a poll by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press.

Iran's nuclear program, which the West suspects is weapons-oriented, is considered by far the biggest threat to the US by 65 percent of 1,502 people surveyed February 1-5.

Seventy-two percent believe that Israel would be the target of Iranian nuclear weapons should they come into being, while 66 percent believe Europe and the United States would most likely fall under the mushroom cloud.

And 53 percent thought the United States was dedicating too much of its time to the Iranian nuclear issue; 72 percent said the United Nations should take the lead and 51 percent, the European Union.

North Korea's nuclear program merited a 60 percent danger rating, followed by China as an emerging power (47 percent), leftist leaders in Latin America (24 percent) and Russian authoritarianism (22 percent).

Iran took center stage as the country posing the biggest threat to the United States by 27 percent of those surveyed, triple the number who thought so in October (nine percent).

China was considered a threat by 20 percent, Iraq by 17 percent and North Korea by 11 percent.

Interestingly, the United States itself took fifth place as a threat unto itself by five percent of Americans, according to the Pew poll, which had a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points.

This group of 5% is correct. the greatest enemy that the American people have in the whole world is in fact the United States of America.

But this poll demonstrates that for most americans, they will believe whatever their tv programs them to believe. that's one reason why I don't watch tv.

It just astonishes me how easy it is for those who understand how propaganda works to lead the sheeple right over a cliff. Unfortunately, the end result is the blind leading the blind.

Nothing is more certainly written in the book of fate than that these people are to be free. Nor is it less certain that the two races, equally free, cannot live in the same government.

Americans believe tv is real. Everything that come across it, is the truth. Washington DC/Federal government is our gravest threat.

So says the so-called "Jews" of the world. WWI, WWII, and now the beginnings of WWIII have been crafted by these demons, enough already!

Even with their clever propaganda and their vast resources to spread it far and wide I believe this poll is BS. It is being used IMO to persuade people to follow the herd and wise up to the real threat of Iran. They are masters of group perception and the power it can have over people.

you might be right about that in that the poll may very well be fraudulent. One thing I noticed about the poll is it said I think 53% thought the media spent too much time emphasizing Iran threat and yet about 63% thought Iran was a huge threat. It means some people know in their gut that the tv is full of it and yet they agree with it. Dysfunctional.

I think as a nation our policy of attacking countries willy nilly is incoherent and should be replaced by a fairer and more logical one, like maybe alphabetically (of course excluding any that may actually have nuclear weapons).

“Of all the enemies to public liberty war is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies; from these proceed debts and taxes...known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few…No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare.” – James Madison, Political Observations, 1795

It just astonishes me how easy it is for those who understand how propaganda works to lead the sheeple right over a cliff.

It is astonishing. Yet consider, from birth, nearly, we are conditioned to believe a guy, on tv, with a suit on, white teeth and a good looking hairdoo, is in fact our little god to be trusted, no matter how absurd his story.

Really quite amazing, and informative as to how our species are "hard wired" ?? (or is this learned behavior, by the constant drone of "Cops to the rescue", Mission Impossible, James Bond etc.) to interact with such perdictability to what the good looking man says on the TV.

Red I am SO with you on the tv thing - my wife and I,after watching the travils our friends have had with their tv saturated children, many times remarked that the smartest things we had done as parents was to (after Barney, etc, the very young shows that give mom and dad a break, and repeat the ABC's), was us to become totally unplugged from the network psycobabble.

So we read, ( my 6' 5" fourteen year old son loves to read, but is I ever catch him reading Kung Fu manuals, I have got to confiscate them for survival purposes) and watch quality videos (usually) that actually improve your vision of the world ( we really like travel videos, highly reccommended, Lonely Planet and the like)

Americans are at least consistent in believing once again whatever the media tells them to believe rather than researching the shit themselves.

Americans are so dense. I was trying to advance the alphabetical doctrine at work today, I can't say I was very successful. I think maybe the plan needs a hook maybe something to do with vowels, I don't know.

How about some commercials; Micheal Jackson in the background ....ABC it's easy as 123

Or maybe .......A gathering like the close of the MM Club ........Now it's time to pick the place that we will invade next, sit right there, in your chair, we'll use the alphabet test.........IT's AEIOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Still needs some work in how to deal with stupid foriegners changing the name of their country to delay their destiny.

I'll try to recount the nations the US invaded since 1989.

Panama - former US puppet became recalcitrant towards the US and was thus overthrown. Historical evidence in panama indicates that US troops attacked an apartment complex full of poor people and burned it to the ground killing over 1,000 civilians in that one attack, an attack that was in fact an attack on civilians. I remember reading about this attack in the wall street journal at the time. it was reported right in the US media that the US soldiers did this.

Sudan - the US bombed Sudan out of the blue for absolutely no reason. The US said that there was a weapons factory being destroyed. The attack only killed one person. But in European courts it was proven that the US excuses for the attack were ridiculous.

Somalia - In the summer of 1992 there was a big meeting of Somali leaders in Mogadishu. The US wanted to kill one person at the meeting which was a peaceful meeting among the Somalis arranged by the Somalis for the purpose of talking. In order to kill one person the US attacked with helicopters and killed 80 people, including important national leaders. But the one person the US wanted to kill was not killed. This attack preceded the Somali attacks on the US forces.

Iraq - the Iraqis did not attack the US, but they have been absolutely savaged by the US. Let me list their dead. They lost 400,000 people in the war against Iran, 1980-1987. That war was started because US officials told Saddam they'd give him billions of dollars worth of US grain if he attacked Iran. He attacked Iran as a result and did receive the payoff. The war cost one million lives including Iranians and Iraqis. The Iraqis then lost 100,000-200,000 peoiple in the first IRaq War. The first Iraq war occurred because US diplomat April Glaspie told Saddam that he could invade Kuwait and the US didn't care. This is a matter of public record Glaspie herself admitted it to journalists. A partial transcript was released by the US government documenting this. Then the Iraqis lost 500,000 people due to the economic sanctions over a 10 year period. Most of these dead were children under 5. Completely innocent people, dead because of US policy. Policy that did nobody any good at all. Then the US invaded Iraq again in 2003 and so far there's over 150,000 dead from that. And then we must consider the DU related deaths which are of an unknown number.

Afghanistan - the Taliban did not attack the US. The US invaded Afghanistan in October 2001 even though the US was giving foreign aid money to Afghanistan just two months prior.

Serbia - The US took Kosovo from Serbia in 1999 in a completely unprovoked attack. The US killed 2500 people in this war who were completely innocent people.

Haiti - US soldiers went to the elected president's house and told him that he must leave with them to go into exile that night or else they would kill him. This is what Aristede told journalists from Africa.

and then there were questionable things done by the US in the Bosnia affair as well.

This is only the overt military action taken. This does not include CIA crimes of assassinations, dirty tricks and intimidation which have occurred in many countries including the American nation.

But I agree with you, there's no rhyme nor reason to why they attack what country when. It would be better to alphabetize the nations and then attack them in order by the alphabet.

Isn't that the one where we flew as al qaida's air force on the side of the muslim terrorists from Albania invading Serbia.

The US allies in the 1999 war against serbia were albanian muslims. and the particular military organization we allied ourselves with was the KLA. the KLA makes money by smuggling heroin to europe from afghanistan.

at the start of the war bill clinton said that we were going to save the albanians from genocide which clinton said the serbians were committing. But the United Nations and the European Union both agreed with the US intelligence expert who testified before the US senate that there was no genocide. It was bill clinton and the american tv who said that there was genocide occurring. The US government expert who testified before the senate and the EU and the UN all agreed that in kosovo there were 2000 people murdered per year due to ethnic violence. That is a murder rate of 100 per 100,000 per year. the washington dc murder rate is 70 per 100,000 per year. The US went to war after calling this murder rate, only 50% higher than that in washington dc as being genocide. then the US killed 2500 people who had nothing to do with these ethnic murders which occurred in kosovo, the 2500 killed by the US lived in the non-kosovo part of serbia. after serbia surrendered the US army took control of kosovo. then KLA gunmen walked into a mine owned by serbians that was worth 2 trillion dollars. they stole that mine at the point of a gun. the US army who was obligated by peace treaty to provide law and order did nothing to stop the gunmen. and then the murder rate due to ethnic violence declined only slightly, but over a period of 6 years it has come down to like 1200 per year, down from 2000. But the victims are now almost always non-albanian. Before the victims were mixed between serb and albanian. Now the victims are almost always non-albanian. and 90% of the population of kosovo that was non-muslim and non-albanian has now left kosovo. Before they had 26 nationalities living in one province, now they have almost all just one - the albanians who are muslim. and this is the result of the war that was fought to stop ethnic cleansing.
