A Wall Street analyst who spoke to Peter Smith the day before he reportedly committed suicide told the Daily Caller News Foundation there were no indications the Chicago businessman and anti-Clinton political investigator was about to take his life. “He may have been a fantastic actor but I certainly didn’t leave that phone call saying, ‘oh shit, the guy’s at the end of his rope,’” Charles Ortel, a Wall Street investment banker and market analyst, told The Daily Caller News Foundation’s (TheDCNF) Investigative Group. “This does not seem like a settled story. It made perfect sense to me he might have died of natural causes, but little chance he ...

The purchase was made between HNA Infrastructure and Brazilian engineering group Odebrecht, which controlled 51 percent of the stock in Rio de Janeiro Aeroportos S.A. (RJA). The remaining 49 percent stake is controlled by Singapore Changi Airport Group. The Chinese company also plans to invest 2.16 billion RMB to pay for the airport’s licensing rights. This marks the latest purchase by HNA Group after it acquired a 82.5 percent stake in the Frankfurt-Hahn ...

Reuters warns of the waning power of the petrodollar

RI... We often get teased for warning on a semi-regular basis that the US Dollar isn't the pillar of strength that it's presented to be. Well, Reuters published a fun little column today about how the Saudis are running up a huge deficit—and won't be able to obediently gobble up US Treasuries like they usually do. What does this mean? As Reuters puts it, we are witnessing the "waning power of the petrodollar": When the Federal Reserve begins reducing its holdings of U.S. Treasuries as expected later this year, some of the most consistent buyers of U.S. bonds over the last 15 years may be less than willing to fill the breach. Before the financial crisis, the ...

Geopolitics Could Send Oil Back to $120 in No Time

RI... Political instability threatens production in a number of major producers. A perfect storm that took out Venezuela, Nigeria and Libya would send shock waves across the energy market The latest rally in oil prices ran up against a wall yet again, and the same fears about oversupply have not receded in the slightest. The expectation from most oil analysts is that there is very little room on the upside for oil prices and that we will have to wait until 2018 at the earliest before the market gets closer to “balance.” But the one major wildcard for oil prices is geopolitics, which, however unlikely given the degree of supply overhang that still exists, could send prices up. ...

Janet Yellen: False Prophet of Prosperity
Post Date: 2017-07-12 07:56:43 by Ada

Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen recently predicted that, thanks to the regulations implemented after the 2008 market meltdown, America would not experience another economic crisis “in our lifetimes.” Yellen’s statement should send shivers down our spines, as there are few more reliable signals of an impending recession, or worse, than when so-called “experts” proclaim that we are in an era of unending prosperity. For instance, in the years leading up to the 2008 market meltdown, then-Fed Chair Ben Bernanke repeatedly denied the existence of a housing bubble. In February 2007, Bernanke not only denied that “sluggishness” in the housing market would ...

Paul Craig Roberts Warns Of "Ever More Official Lies" From The US Government

The false reality constructed for Americans parallels perfectly the false reality constructed by Big Brother in George Orwells’ dystopian novel 1984. Consider the constant morphing of “the Muslim threat” from al-Qaeda to the Taliban, to al-Nusra, to ISIS to ISIL, to Daesh with a jump to Russia. All of a sudden 16 years of Middle East wars against “terrorists” and “dictators” have become a matter of standing up to Russia, the country most threatened by Muslim terrorism, and the country most capable of wiping the United States and its vassal empire off of the face of the earth. Domestically, Americans are assured that, thanks to the Federal ...

PressTV... Asian and European companies are negotiating participation in Iran’s oil and gas development projects which need $200 billion worth of investment, according to Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zangeneh. Iran looks to absorb 65% to 70% of this sum from abroad, the minister told Iran’s Parliament where he was Tuesday to answer questions about a $5 billion gas deal signed with French giant Total earlier this month. Deputy Minister of Petroleum for International Affairs Amir Hosssein Zamaninia said the deal with Total has set the ball rolling for the conclusion of more contracts with international companies. “I can assure you this isn't the last one. The internet retailer expanded the gimmick to the nation’s capital to celebrate its Prime Day. Since Amazon began its banana stand in 2015, the online giant has distributed 1.7 million of the tropical fruit, but local retailers are split on the move and watching a dip in their sales. C2C-AM... In the first half, financial expert Catherine Austin Fitts joined George in the studio to discuss the American economy, as well as how to manage your money and investments in order to have a healthy financial future. Rising interest rates in the US will hurt sovereign governments around the world that have borrowed tremendous amounts of money, but it will provide some relief to insurance companies and pension funds, she said. The Feds, she revealed, keep printing money, which debases the currency, and pushes up the price of assets such as property, and this ends up hurting the middle class. Another reason she cited for the squeeze on the middle class is that government spending ...

Doug Casey on the Illinois Debt Crisis
Post Date: 2017-07-04 16:07:58 by Ada

Justin’s note: Illinois is dead broke. Every month, it spends $600 million more than it collects in taxes. The state is now $15 billion in debt. There’s no telling how much worse its financial situation will become, either. After all, Illinois hasn’t had a budget in two years. If it can’t put one together by tomorrow, Standard & Poor’s will cut its credit rating to “junk.” It would become the first state ever with this distinction. This would have serious implications for the 13 million people living in Illinois. It could trigger a nationwide debt crisis. Doug Casey and I discuss why in the interview below. Justin Spittler: Doug, what do you make ...

The 4th of July is upon us. We will hear all sorts of patriotic BS about how wonderful we are and how thankful we are to our brave military which defends our liberty. Not a word will be said about the destruction by the Bush and Obama regimes of the US Constitution, which once protected our liberty far better than any military action. Not a word will be said about Washington’s 16 years of purely gratuitous war in the Middle East and North Africa that has destroyed in whole or part seven countries, sending millions of war refugees to overrun the Western World and change the quality of life for Western peoples. Not a word will be said about Washington’s ongoing insane ...

Iranian gas boosts Iraq in Saudi oil market war

PressTV... Iran started its gas exports to Iraq on June 21, 2017 after years of delay. Iran’s exports of gas to Iraq which began last month are set to free up more oil for exports by the Arab country, clipping Saudi Arabia's wings further in its bid to retain markets. Iraq along with Saudi Arabia jumped on the occasion from the West’s unprecedented sanctions on the Islamic Republic in 2011 to ramp up their oil production in the absence of the Islamic Republic. Iran’s long-delayed gas exports to Baghdad started on June 21 at around 7 million cubic meters per day, which will finally rise to 35 million. According to the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), exports of gas ...

PMF... The borrower is the servant of the lender, and through the mechanism of government debt virtually the entire planet has become the servants of the global money changers. Politicians love to borrow money, but over time government debt slowly but surely impoverishes a nation. As the elite get governments around the globe in increasing amounts of debt, those governments must raise taxes in order to keep servicing those debts. In the end, it is all about taking money from us and transferring it into government pockets, and then taking money from government pockets and transferring it into the hands of the elite. It is a game that has been going on for generations, and it is time for ...

Hawaii named 'worst state to make a living' ... againHONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -At least we're consistent: For a seventh straight year, Hawaii has been named the worst state to make a living thanks to its astronomical cost of living. The ranking, put together annually by MoneyRates.com, says while Hawaii has the 10th-highest median wage nationwide, that's not enough to make up for living expenses that are two-thirds higher than in the rest of the nation. The high cost of living is compounded by one of the highest state tax income burdens in the nation. To put together the ranking, MoneyRates considered median salary, state tax rates, cost of living and unemployment ...

State of Montana to directly invest in Bitcoin mining operation and Blockchain based data center

As we wrote in an article earlier this week, both regulation and will be accepted within the U.S. appears to be varied between the states. And on June 10 the state of Montana has introduced a new approach which includes actual taxpayer funding to facilitate investment in a data center which will act as both a Bitcoin mining operation, and as a Blockchain test facility. In the first-ever reported case of a US State funding what looks to be a Bitcoin mining operation, Montana’s Governor recently announced that $416,000 was awarded to a “data center that provides blockchain security services for the bitcoin network.” Governor Steve Bullock recently announced $1,124,030 in ...

Several years ago when the Federal Reserve had its Fed funds rate at zero to 25 basis points (one-quarter of one percent—0.25%), there was a great deal of talk, somehow presented as urgent, whether the Federal Reserve would raise interest rates. RT asked me if the Fed was going to raise interest rates. I answered that the purpose of low interest rates was to restore the solvency of the balance sheets of the “banks too big to fail” by raising debt prices. The lower the interest rate, the higher the prices of debt instruments. The Fed drives bond prices up by purchasing bonds, and the Fed raises interest rates by selling bonds, or by purchasing fewer of them than ...
